Understand statuses of maintenance schedules

There can be four statuses of a maintenance schedule in Axle — current, due soon, overdue, and unknown.

Current

When a schedule is current, its PM has been recently completed and its record is completely up to date. The PM is not due in the immediate future.

Due soon

When a schedule is due soon, its PM is due in either X miles or days — as defined by the template — and a work request is automatically created. This gives you enough lead time to assign the work to either a tech or an outside service provider before it becomes due. Completing the PM flips the status back to Current.

Overdue

When a schedule is overdue, one of its triggers has been met: today is on or after the next due date, or the asset's odometer has reached or passed its next due mileage. Only one needs to be true — a PM set to trigger on either mileage or days goes Overdue as soon as the first one lands, and a work request is automatically created. Completing the PM flips the status back to Current.

Unknown

When a schedule is unknown, one of two things is true:

  1. It's never been done before. In this case, Axle needs a completion record to start running its schedule. You can either upload its last completed inspection to Documents, or add it to Intake for its first recorded PM in Axle. Either one gives Axle a last-completed point to measure from, and the schedule starts tracking from there.

  1. The asset's mileage is unusable, because it's either never been entered or is over 30 days old. You can simply enter its latest odometer reading, and the schedule will calculate its next mileage-based due date.
